Itinerary
Day 1: Fez – Ifrane – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga
Your journey begins with an early morning pickup from your accommodation in Fez, heading south through the Middle Atlas Mountains toward Ifrane, a charming alpine town often referred to as the “Switzerland of Morocco.” Continuing through the cedar forests near Azrou, you may encounter wild Barbary macaques before driving toward Midelt for a relaxing lunch stop. The journey then takes you عبر the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and along the dramatic landscapes of the Ziz Valley, where lush palm groves contrast beautifully with the surrounding desert terrain. As you pass through Erfoud and Rissani, the gateway to the Sahara, the scenery gradually transforms into golden desert plains until you reach Merzouga. Upon arrival, you will settle into your hotel or kasbah near the dunes and enjoy a peaceful evening with dinner.
Day 2: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi Dunes – Nomads – Khamlia – Desert Camp
After breakfast, the day is dedicated to exploring the Sahara around Erg Chebbi, beginning with a 4×4 adventure across the vast dunes and desert plains. Along the way, you will visit nomadic Berber families living in traditional tents, where you will be welcomed with tea and gain insight into their daily life and traditions. The journey continues to the village of Khamlia, where you will experience the rhythms of Gnawa music, a unique cultural heritage of the region. After lunch and some time to relax, the afternoon brings one of the most memorable moments of the trip: a camel trek across the golden dunes at sunset, offering breathtaking panoramic views. Upon arrival at your desert camp, you will be welcomed with traditional hospitality, followed by a delicious dinner and an evening of Berber music and dancing under the stars, creating an unforgettable desert experience.
Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley – Ouarzazate
Wake up early to witness a spectacular sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chebbi before returning to Merzouga by camel or 4×4 for breakfast. Your journey then continues toward Rissani and through desert towns like Tinjdad, heading to the breathtaking Todra Gorge, famous for its towering canyon walls and natural beauty, where you will stop for lunch and a short walk. In the afternoon, travel through the scenic Dades Valley, known for its dramatic rock formations and ancient kasbahs, before following part of the legendary “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.” Passing through the fragrant Valley of Roses and the oasis of Skoura, you will arrive in Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Morocco,” where you will spend the night.
Day 4: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas – Marrakech
On the final day, you will visit the iconic Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most famous kasbahs in Morocco, known for its stunning earthen architecture and appearances in many international films.
